November 15

Today I had a critique in Drawing. I presented this piece where I made natural objects and placed them in nature. I was thinking about those huge cell phone towers that are disguised as trees but look nothing like trees. It's like our society recognizes our need to be around nature, but rejects it. Here are some pictures...

I also did not want to put them in a forest, but in a kind of fake nature setting, like on the college campus.

My next thing is to start working on a chandelier-type item (which is what I've been talking about all year, I know). I'm going to start with something that does not actually contain a light but all of the other structures of a chandelier still exist..like a Petah Coyne kind of hanging sculpture.

  1. Hi Sam--I saw this online and it made me think of what you did for the Chance show. While it might be completely different in terms of form and content of what you do, I guess the similarity was that this artist also used a hammer and nails to create his art---I thought maybe you'd enjoy seeing this and perhaps it might influence or give you ideas for the work you're doing with your organic shapes. www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/10/view/13982/marcus-levine-hammer-nail-works.html
